It’s (Bio)Logical to Focus on Biologicals Now

Having farmed and worked in Commercial Agriculture, specifically the Biological Industry, for the last 26 years, I’ve come to realise that growth happens in the pain points. It’s in the pain points that one is forced to re-evaluate one’s current practices to ensure survival and longevity. Those that do it, and do it well, reap the rewards of ongoing future success.

Quality biological solutions, if commercially, technically and agronomically understood – are currently well positioned to contribute towards relieving some financial, productivity and market access pain points for our South African growers. Like the economic and political challenges we currently face, locally and globally: businesses and farming operations, independent of size, are multi-layered, multi- dimensional and complex. One of the reasons cited by industry experts for the low acceptance rate of biologicals is the lack of awareness by farmers and secondly, the requirement for farmers to change their current operational practices. And nobody likes change, or the pain of change. And yet, change allows us to move forward out of the pain points. Change allows us to be more focused and, like nature, to evolve.

If you are looking to evolve with biological solutions for increased ROI’s, you need a diverse team, inclusive of a trusted biological partner, who can collaborate and support your operation holistically, considering more than just the price of the biological solution. That is short-term pain relief. For long and sustainable pain relief, you need to take into account all financial, technical and agronomic aspects of your operation. The ROI for including biologicals into your production programs will be worth the pain in exchange for the innovation and future growth in your business.

After all, Einstein’s Parable of Quantum Insanity says, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.” It’s logical to FOCUS on biologicals now!

New Product Registration: Introducing BioCarb-K

Sias Leipoldt
Business Lead: Product Portfolio Management

Powdery mildew and Botrytis bunch rot are two of the most important diseases of grapes worldwide and causes huge economic losses in table grape and wine production. These fungal diseases do not only negatively affect yield, but also drive up production cost and can have undesirable effects on table grape and wine quality. Similarly, powdery mildew has the ability to infect all cucurbit crops and if not treated preventatively can lead to severe yield reduction.

We are delighted to share the good news with you, BioCarb-K has been approved as a biorational fungicide (L11339) and is now officially part of our Bio Crop Protection range. BioCarb-K is a potassium bicarbonate contact fungicide with preventive and curative effects against Grey mould (Botrytis) and Powdery mildew on table and wine grapes as well as cucurbits. . .
